‣ What to do in this Step
Read the information provided in this chapter regarding the seven core attribute scores and how they impact the game, then follow the guidance on how to assign them. After finalizing your attributes, document their values on your Character Sheet.
This chapter also goes on to explain many of the derived statistics which are also important to Characters, such as Health — note the information provided and derive your character’s statistics as shown. Make any required changes to your Character Sheet as you go.
‣ How Attributes define a Character
Attributes have a major impact on all of a character’s capabilities during an adventure or campaign — they directly decide what a character is good at or bad at (though they can be balanced somewhat by choosing certain abilities later in Character Creation).
‣ What to do Next
Once you have assigned your characters Attributes and documented their derived Statistics, move on to the next step, choosing their Background→.

Attributes are an abstract way to describe a character (such as how strong or insightful they are) using simplified numerical values. A character with a larger number in a given attribute is ‘better’ at that thing than another with a smaller number. This chapter shall describe each attribute score and how to assign them. It shall also cover other important statistics derived from these scores.
In Paths to Eternity, characters are described by seven independent attribute scores, six of which represent different aspects of mind and body with the last being far more ineffable. How high or low an attribute score is provides a measure of that aspect of their person — are they particularly strong? Insightful? Or perhaps they are quite sickly compared to others, having a lower than average vitality. The seven attributes that are used to describe a character can be summarised as follows:
For each attribute, a score of 4 represents someone ‘average’ in that area, whereas a score of 6 represents someone exceptional.
To generate a character’s Attribute Scores, select one of the following arrays. Once chosen, assign each score in any order to any attribute you see fit (excepting the age restrictions provided below). Use your choices to ‘paint a picture’ of the type of character you envision, recording your final selections on your Character Sheet.
